Introducing the Field Notes “The Chicago Look” Edition, 66th Quarterly Limited Release for Spring 2025. This edition pays homage to a pivotal chapter in American design and typographic history, spotlighting the iconic style pioneered by the Beverly Sign Co. Known for their “panelized” compositions, innovative typography, and bold colors, their work defined what became known as “The Chicago Look.”

Designed in collaboration with Chicago’s own Heart & Bone Signs and sign-painting legend Bob Behounek, the two cover designs replicate Beverly’s original pencil sketches, complete with the distinctive diagonal “strike-thru” marks used to indicate colors to clients and painters.

These notebooks introduce a new, larger size to our lineup, measuring 6” × 8”, and contain 64 graph-ruled pages printed in “Non-Repro Blue,” a shade traditionally used in the graphic arts for its ease of removal from black-and-white artwork reproductions. As always, the inside covers are filled with historical insights, illustrations, and our signature wit.
